Woman injured in crash

A YOUNG woman is lucky to be alive after her car collided with a gum tree and rolled onto its roof in East Warburton.
The woman, 22, was travelling to her parents’ home when the collision occurred about 10pm on Monday, 31 October.
Senior Constable Doug Fisher from Warburton police said the young woman sustained serious injuries when her vehicle left the highway opposite the Millwara Primary School.
“After colliding with a tree the vehicle rolled and the driver was left hanging upside down, strapped in by a seat belt,” he said.
“Local residents came to the woman’s aid and assisted her out of the car. The driver was very lucky to survive.”
Sen Const Fisher said she was taken by ambulance to the Maroondah Hospital.
He said the police from Warburton and members of the Warburton Millgrove CFA attended the scene, and that the vehicle was a write-off.
Sergeant Paul Bell from Warburton police said the young woman had since been released from hospital and would be interviewed by police.
Police are investigating whether speed was a contributing factor.
Sergeant Bell reminded motorists to adhere to the speed limit.
