Thirsty thieves target cricket club, again

LAUNCHING Place Cricket Club has again been hit for six, with thieves stealing alcohol from the clubrooms in the third break-in in two weeks.
A 2.5 metre long, triple-glazed window was broken to gain access.
Club vice-president Colin Voight said the incidents were upsetting and costly to the club, which has now had to make substantial improvements to security by installing video surveillance.
In a previous attack on the club, the perpetrators lit a bonfire on the synthetic pitch making it unusable.
Members are angry and disappointed that as a community club they are being targeted.
“We’re disappointed at the callous acts that hinder children’s enjoyment of the game with missing equipment and money having to be spent that that could be going into more productive things for kids,” one member told the Mail.
Yarra Junction police have also expressed their disgust, describing the thefts as a “low act”.
Mr Voight said the community had been helping with information and police had asked residents to continue to be on the lookout for suspicious activity near the clubrooms.
Anyone with any concerns should call ‘000’ for police attendance, or phone Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 if they have information on the thefts.
