Woori’s hopes shattered

WOORI was looking to go a game clear on top if it could knock off Gembrook.
It went into the game with outstanding form after beating Upwey by 10 goals the week before but it was the Brookers who ran away with the game in the second half.
The first half was a beauty with teams going goal for goal and at the long break it was Gembrook that held a four-point lead.
The third quarter saw Gembrook getting on top and it looked to have more run than Woori Yallock as the Brookers booted 5.6 to 2.4 to go into the last term with a 24-point buffer.
The final quarter was an even battle with Gembrook outscoring Woori by just the one point.
Scores: Gembrook Cockatoo 16.14(110) d Woori Yallock 13.8(86)
Best – Gembrook Cockatoo: Ricky Clark, Craig Clarke, Shannon Richardson. Woori Yallock: Michael King, Damian Monkhorst, Danny Ryan.
THE Healesville-Silvan game was over at quarter-time as Healesville booted 9.4 to a bitterly disappointing Silvan’s one behind.
The only real interest in the match was how far Healesville would win. Healesville booted another five goals in the second term as Silvan did get on the board with one major.
The second half was more of the same but Healesville did seem to take its foot off the pedal a little but still managed to increase its lead for a 103-point victory.
Scores: Healesville 26.16(172) d Silvan 10.9(69)
Best – Healesville: Casey Adams, Luke Barclay (seven goals), Simon Gordon (six). Silvan: Patrick Glassborow, Gary Timms, Sean Toohey.
THE Monbulk v Warburton Millgrove match turned out to be a game of forwards with Monbulk’s Michael Hughson booting six while Warby’s Scott Muir continued his great form with another eight goals.
The first three-quarters were great as neither side could grab the ascendancy but it was Warby that held on to a two-goal lead for most of the time. Then Monbulk edged in front by three points going into the last.
Then Monbulk hit its straps when it mattered and finished with a six-goal quarter as Warby managed only two.
Scores: Monbulk 18.13(121) d Warburton Millgrove 14.8(92)
Best – Monbulk: Michael Hughson (six goals), Jared Devers, Dylan Werts. Warburton Millgrove: Liam Barnard, Michael Walker, Grant Mewing.
OLINDA is slowly making it known that it is a giant killer as it beat another more fancied opponent in Mount Evelyn on the weekend.
The Bloods led at every change but it wasn’t until the last quarter that they eventually shook off Mount Evelyn.
At three-quarter-time Olinda held a 12-point lead with the game still up for grabs.
The last quarter was a beauty with 10 goals being booted but it was Olinda that finished the better, booting six last-quarter goals to keep their push for the finals right on track.
Olinda Ferny Creek 17.15(117) d Mount Evelyn 13.14(92)
Best – Olinda Ferny Creek: Scott Tregoning, Nick Broomhall, Ryan Davis. Mount Evelyn: Jon Dalton, Steven Martin, Steven Tesoriero.
AS GOOD as Upwey was with a massive win, Wandin was not so good.
Eamonn Keogh and Simon Mitchell kicked seven goals a piece for the winners as they seemed to do as they pleased.
Upwey’s breakdown of quarter-by-quarter goals was eight-11-nine but showed a little mercy in the last, booting only three.
But it was a huge percentage-boosting win for Upwey.
Upwey Tecoma 31.20(206) d Wandin 6.10(46)
Best – Upwey Tecoma: Adam Parsons, Eamonn Keogh (seven goals), Steven Brotja. Wandin: Daniel King, Mathew Peterson, Matthew Lang.

@BT Sport Sub Mail:DIVISION TWO

IT’S amazing to think that the loser of this game is sitting at the foot of the ladder while the winner may end up as high as sixth, still with a slim chance of finals.
Emerald had the lead at the first change but was wasteful on occasions with a score line of 5.5.
Despite staying in touch with 3.1 in the first quarter, Belgrave was wasteful in the second term booting 2.7, to Emerald’s 1.1, going into the long break with a four-point lead.
Emerald started to hit the target in the third and it showed on the scoreboard as the Bombers booted 5.1 to Belgrave’s 2.4, scoring a handy 20-point lead.
The last quarter was a slog as both teams could manage only one major each but it was enough to keep Emerald’s season alive.
Emerald 12.12(84) d Belgrave 8.17(65)
Best – Emerald: Luke McKenna, Daniel Porter, Shane Buhmann. Belgrave: Benjamin Dadswell, Tom McNamara, Kyle Chandler.
