THE Johnson Park Sharks excelled in the weekend heat, easily accounting for Ferntree Gully to step a game and a half clear of the competition. Adam West guided the Sharks home undefeated on 72 as Johnson Park posted 5/131 in reply to the Blues’ 125. Mark Teofilo (31) top scored as Ferntree Gully strived to post a competitive score, although it was Liarne De Silva who did the damage taking 4 wickets for 19. Johnson Park now sits clear on 30 points, having made the most of its opportunities.
The Basin consolidated sixth place with its win over Belgrave. Mick Rawnsley led the way for the Huntsmen with 71, while Steve Elworthy (44*), Danny Rundle (32), and Josh Lee (35) made sure The Basin set a large total of 3/233. The Magpies could only manage 151 in reply as Shane Underhill took 3/27.
Playing at Eildon Park, the home side set Upwey 224 for victory before dismissing it for 180. The Panthers were well served by Shane Cosstick (94) and Josh Dowling (51) before Nathan Caton-Robertson (3/17), Nathan McNally (3/27) and Costick (3/22) bowled Eildon Park to victory. The Tigers had contributions from Jewell (40), Hewitt (37), and Taylor (31) but will be disappointed with the result.
Footballers continued on their merry way, snaring their third win of the season against Rowville. The Griffins shared the runs around, losing seven wickets in reply to Rowville’s 159. Bogar, Morsello and Blackman all got starts for the Hawks while Andrew Tweedle and Adam Cary both snared three wickets.
Monbulk recorded its first win of the season, dismissing Upper Ferntree Gully for 101 with Aaron Walter taking 4/6. Monbulk lost only four wickets in its chase as Chris Coen made an unbeaten 40.
In DeCoite Shield action, Knoxfield restricted Lysterfield to 4/134 in pursuit of 7/195, South Belgrave beat Knox Gardens, and bowlers dominated the game between St Johns Tecoma (106) and Mountain Gate (97).
