Mum to market

By Kath Gannaway
IT DOESN’T matter whether your Mother’s Day budget is piggy-bank size or the sky’s the limit … you will find something special for your mum at the Yarra Valley Food, Wine and Craft Market on Mother’s Day.
Why not treat mum to a day trip to beautiful Yarra Glen on her special day starting with a leisurely stroll around the market and the opportunity to choose a unique gift. The market, which regularly has between 60 and 80 stalls, specialises in quality food, wine, plants and craft.
Start your market experience with a mulled wine to warm your hands and your heart and browse among the stalls which include jewellery, hand-make soaps and lotions, alpaca and lambswool wraps, delicious breads, condiments and chutneys … and be sure to search out the home-made meringues and lemon-curd as a take-home treat!
If mum is a gardener, there is a great variety of winter seedlings, plants and garden ornaments, and if she loves a good wine, you will find that too with several Yarra Valley wineries represented among the stallholders.
The Yarra Valley Food, Wine and Craft Market is open over winter this year and there is nothing better than a Himalayan Sherpa curry or a wood-fired pizza to take the edge off the inevitably crisp temperatures.
Or just sit a while with a great cup of Yarra Coffee while you enjoy live music and the relaxed atmosphere. The market, held at the Yarra Valley Racing Centre in Armstrong Grove, Yarra Glen, has undercover stall areas and plenty of parking making it an ideal all-weather market.
The market is held on the second Sunday of each month from 9am to 2pm.
