UNDEFEATED all year, the Wandin Bulldogs under-13s came out with a 20-point win over Emerald – in a grand final that saw the top two teams fighting it out for the flag.
DRJFL president John Meyers congratulated the teams saying it was a fitting end to the season to see the teams that had been first and second all season playing out the 2014 premiership cup.
Coach Glen Garner started his congratulations with a nod to player Nick Bruzzese who broke his leg at training leading up to the big game.
“There will come another time,” he said.
“We always know we are going to get a solid game of footy when we play you,” he told the Emerald boys.
“We went undefeated, but these boys pushed us to one point during the year.”
Congratulating the under-13 premiers, he said: “We knew we were going to be pushed pretty hard and had to start well. You came out, switched on and fought the game right through. Well done.”
Wandin’s Todd Garner was named best-on-ground for the match.
The final scores were Wandin 6.7 (43) to Emerald 3.5 (23).
