PICNIC racing at Healesville gets underway on 1 November with the Derby Day race meeting.
The 2014/’15 season will see six race meetings from November through to March, offering plenty of opportunity to enjoy that special breed of racing that comes under the heading of ‘the picnics’.
It’s about the friendly atmosphere, it’s about the rural setting, it’s about the getting up close with the horses, the jockeys and the bookies and it’s about meeting up with friends and family to enjoy a family outing.
Healesville racecourse with its avenue of shady pin oaks and plenty of lawn space, is the perfect setting for a picnic. The racing is keen with good fields, and the feeling of being close to the action wherever you are around the course adds excitement to the pleasure of relaxing in a particularly picturesque setting.
Marquee packages and catering can be organised with catering provided, or bring your own food and drink.
For large groups, an area can be roped off for a fee, so your space is secured.
There is a canteen and bar on course, along with full TAB and bookmakers facilities. A $20 punters’ club operates at each meeting providing that on-track interest for a small outlay (and potentially a win).
Season memberships are also available and makes a great gift for anyone who likes a flutter.
This season’s race meetings are on Saturdays, 1 and 22 November and 13 December 2014. The year 2015 starts with the Healesville Cup on 10 January, then 31 January and 28 March.
