Be warned

LAST week I received a telephone call. The caller was purporting to be from the Commonwealth Bank’s head office in Sydney. She knew my name and asked my birthdate to verify who I was.
She went on to say that no doubt I had seen the news about bank overcharging and that the bank was working with the Office of Fair Trading in rectifying and refunding overcharging on my account. She asked for my bank card details as further verification and I said that she should have them. She said that she understood my uneasiness with this and that she gave me her full name and employee ID.
As if reading from a screen, she proceeded to give me the first five digits of my credit card hoping that I would complete or correct her.
I requested her telephone number, and when this was not forthcoming, I hung up.
I rang my bank immediately and was told that there had been a number of reports of this scam.
Be warned, give no details.
