A FLURRY of flags will be flown by the Healesville SES, following a donation last week to complete the group’s collection.
Eildon MP Cindy McLeish visited the Healesville SES during its weekly meeting on Monday 18 May to donate a Victorian flag to the group.
Controller Geoff Stott said the group had started searching for flags to be used during Anzac Day marches – after receiving an Australian flag from the Yarra Ranges Council, a member approached Ms McLeish.
“She said that, because she’s State (Parliament), she would give us a State flag,” Mr Stott said.
“We’d never had a State flag – it was quite a generous gesture of her.”
Combined with the SES flag, the crew has a set of three, which Mr Stott said would be used in marches, and flown on their flagpole to mark significant events.
“If anything drastic happens in Victoria, we’d put the Victorian flag up with the SES flag – if something happens federally, all three flags would go up,” he said.
The SES’s depot is currently being redeveloped as a result of a grant from the previous State Government, and Mr Stott said the first works, which will extend the garage to fit their fleet of trucks, would soon be under way.
