LILYDALE Lions Club has paid tribute to former member, the late Helen Blockley, with the presentation of an honour board to the Wandin Senior Citizens Club.
Helen, a long-standing and valued member of both clubs, passed away in January 2014.
Lions president George Holland said it was a great privilege and pleasure to be able to present the board, which will record the club’s presidents, as a permanent memory of a truly outstanding life.
Friend and fellow Lion, Sandra Coulson, paid tribute to Helen, saying she was a silent achiever who was passionate about many things, one of which was being a member of the Wandin Senior Citizens.
She said she loved to cook and had won many first prizes at both the Royal Melbourne and Lilydale shows and was a very keen knitter who was always willing and able to lend a hand when needed.
“I feel very sure that she would be delighted to know that the legacy she left Lilydale Lions, to be spent in the Yarra Valley, is going to a great cause, her beloved Wandin Senior Citizens Club,” Ms Coulson said.
The board was presented at the Wandin Senior Citizens AGM on 6 August.
WSC President, Shirley Rowe, thanked the Lions club, saying it was a beautiful and lasting tribute to a very special woman.
Wandin Senior Citizens was established over 30 years ago and meets each Thursday from 9am to 3pm.
