YARRA Ranges’ Regional Museum will be taking on museums around the world on Thursday night 28 April as part of a worldwide dance-off, with staff asking residents to show their support with votes.
The museum, based in Lilydale, will be taking part in the Museum Dance Off on Thursday, with voting to open from 10pm, until 10pm on Friday 29 April.
Their entry is a video of the museum staff dancing, set in and around the museum to Mark Ronson’s Uptown Funk.
Marketing and promotions officer Roberta Styles-Wood said the video was produced as part of the Yarra Ranges Council’s Dance Here program, which ran from mid-March to mid-April.
“The aim of it, really, is to showcase how great museums are, and that they are fun places,” Ms Styles-Wood said.
“There’s a few dancers around the council who helped out, and we have got some enthusiastic people in the museum who helped do some moves.
“It’s slightly embarrassing watching yourself back, but I think it worked out quite well.”
Tonight’s round will see the regional museum face off against the International Portrait Gallery in Canberra, as well as two museums in the United States of America.
Whichever museum wins the round will progress onto the next, leading up to the final round on 10 May.
Ms Styles-Wood said the overall winner would receive a trophy, and that the competition would help to highlight museums around the world.
“They’re fun, and interesting, and people should get to them,” she said.
