A HEALESVILLE man was set to face court today, Monday 23 May, after allegedly stealing a ute and trying to evade police over the weekend.
Shortly before 4pm on Sunday 22 May, police attempted to pull over a white ute being driven through Healesville by a 21-year-old Healesville man, accompanied by a 25-year-old Healesville man and a 24-year-old Coldstream woman.
Healesville Sergeant Stewart Thomson said the ute had been stolen, and the driver “took off”, losing police around the Mount Riddell Road area.
He said police conducted a search, before finding the ute on Monda Avenue – the driver then allegedly drove at police, before losing control of the car and crashing into a tree.
All three occupants then tried to flee – two of the three were arrested on the spot, with the third found nearby an hour later.
Sgt Thomson said the 21-year-old Healesville man was charged with theft of motor car, conduct endangering life, multiple counts of burglary and driving offences.
He was remanded to appear at Ringwood Magistrates’ Court on Monday 23 May.
The 25-year-old Healesville man and the 24-year-old Coldstream woman were charged with theft of a motor vehicle and committing an indictable offence while on bail. Both were bailed to appear in court in November.
